ADULT STAND-UP CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS
The Training Center at PHIT has taught more than 1,000 people in our comedy classes over the years and we want to help you have some fun learning for a few months or take the first steps on the way to a career in comedy.
Our teaching staff have decades of experience and all perform regularly at the theater, around Philadelphia, and across the country. But they’re also teachers, consultants, therapists, and actors who tailor class to the needs you have or what you desire to get out of your time at PHIT.
Our stand-up classes are designed for complete beginners or those with relatively little experience writing and telling their own jokes in front of a crowd. It’s a great place to start because it will help you get more comfortable before heading out to the various open mics around the city, and give you some helpful tips so that you start out with a leg up over the competition. If you’ve got more experience and less time, our occasional workshops meet for one afternoon and study specific skill or approaches to stand-up that may be helpful to you.
As an added bonus, when you sign up for a class at the Training Center you’ll also get a student pass to come see shows at the theater for free!
Stand-up Workshop – This workshop will give you a basic, usable understanding of how to begin crafting a stand-up comedy act, from absolute beginner advice on stage presence to different approaches to generating material. Students will learn how to take their thoughts, experiences, and observations about life and blend them with their own unique sense of humor and personality to begin creating a routine.
