This fall PHIT will be casting some of the best comedic talent in the city to become a part of three new improv house teams joining our already stellar line up of ensembles. To helm these new teams, PHIT’s Artistic Team approached three talented company members. This week we will officially introduce them and get to know their feelings about being PHIT’s newest house team directors.
Meet our final new house team director: Nick Gillette!
Nick has taught and performed with PHIT since 2008, as part of house teams Everything Must Go and Mayor Karen. He directed the critically acclaimed Myths & Monsters with PHIT as part of the 2012 Philly Fringe Festival, as well as retired PHIT house team Davenger. Currently Nick performs improv regularly as part of The Dean’s List, and in the Dynamite Series show The Wadsworth Constant with PHIT Improv Producer Kristen Schier.
Nick is a graduate of the Pig Iron School for Advanced Performance Training, a 2013-14 New York Live Arts Fresh Tracks resident artist, and the 2014 resident artist of the Philadelphia School for Circus Arts.
We asked Nick to share his thoughts about being a director and what he will be looking for in his new team:
I’m psyched to have been selected to cast and direct a new team. Auditions are a scrum, so I’ll be looking out for improvisors who can both make strong choices for themselves, but more importantly can deftly use whatever their partner gives them. Style-wise, I’ve got a clear sense already of some areas of focus where I’d like to begin, but I’m more excited yet to see where the individuals of the cast determine we’ll all end up.
Audition will be held on Saturday October 18th from 10AM to 4PM and are quickly filling up! If you are interested in auditioning, click here to read the requirements and reserve your spot today!
