PHILLY IMPROV THEATER TRAINING CENTER SCHOLARSHIPS

Philly Improv Theater recognizes that the cost of our classes can pose a barrier to entry for some of our students and their families (for students in our youth program). In an effort to overcome this barrier, PHIT awards a number of diversity scholarships to adults, and need-based scholarships for children in our Kids & Teens program during every one of our class sessions throughout the year.

Adult and Youth Scholarships are awarded for full or partial (50%) tuition discounts for a single class in an upcoming session and can be renewed by re-applying for future sessions.

Adult Scholarships

Adult Scholarships are awarded to students who qualify for participation in PHIT’s Diversity Program, by being a member of one (or more) of the following historically marginalized groups:

  • People of Color
  • People over 40 years of age
  • Members of the LGBTQIA+ community, including people who are gender non-conforming, and people who identify outside the gender binary
  • Women
  • People who are differently-abled or neurodivergent
  • People who are active duty military service members or military veterans.

Because we have a limited number of scholarships, we ask that applicants be mindful of their need when considering submitting an application so that the scholarships we award can be given to students who might not otherwise be able to benefit from our classes without support from the theater. If you feel able to afford half tuition, please make a note of that on the application, as it will allow us to spread the scholarship aid even further.

Youth Scholarships

Youth Scholarships are need-based and open to any family who self-identifies such a need. Because we have a limited number of scholarships, we ask that applicants be mindful of their need when considering submitting an application so that the scholarships we award can be given to students who might not otherwise be able to benefit from our classes without support from the theater. If you feel your family is able to afford half tuition, please make a note of that on the application, as it will allow us to spread the scholarship aid even further.

Applications will be accepted and notifications sent out on a rolling basis. In some instances, student award decisions may be deferred until closer to the start of the class session. Scholarship periods are listed below.

PHIT Scholarships cannot be exchanged for money (i.e. if you have already signed up for a class, you can’t apply the scholarship and get a refund on your payment). If you receive a PHIT Scholarship and are unable to use it, you may defer your enrollment once to the next class session, after which the credit will expire.
