Course Description: Introduction to Screenwriting will teach students basic screenplay writing, screenplay formats, narrative structures, and what is necessary to have a great script. It will give students the tools to transfer a stage act onto the cinema screen. It will provide an analysis of film genres, the elements of characters, conflicts, dramatic structures and dialogue in a comedy; it will interrogate character choices and comic archetypes, and face the importance of character flaws.

ABOUT YOUR KIERSTON
Kierston is a screenwriter. She studies the science of thought and the magic of the medium: Post-war Hollywood years, noir, the early death of heroines, Stanely Kubrick, and the poetic genius of Hayao Miyazaki. She achieved her degree from Emerson College and has written a collection of feature lengths and shorts.
